The Californian Quagmire

We need to pullout of California:

According to the report "Crime in California 2004," compiled by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, there were 2,394 reported homicides in the Golden State last year. That compares with 905 deaths of coalition forces in Iraq, chiefly Americans and Brits, during the same time period.

Yup, that's our fair state. Anyway, our representatives continue to harp about the loss of life in Iraq when hundreds and thousands of innocent lives lost right in their own constituency. Their only solution is to change the name of one of the most offensive areas (from South Central Los Angeles to South Los Angeles). I can only say, "Money well spent."

I was in the Los Angeles during the mid 1980's through the riots of the early 1990's.

I remember the local news would give a monday round up of the people killed during the weekend. Sometimes 30+ people were killed in a 3 day period just in the LA basin. Most of the killings were assassination style murders where some punk would stop his car; walk over and shoot someone in the head. Other times it would be women and children in a house where a stray bullet went through a window (or a wall) from the average shootout on the street. Other times punks would just drive by a school or a university and fire into the crowd.

You were lucky if your car did not have a bullet ding in it. Many cars did. It was a mess. And, don't get me started on the OJ Simpson killings or the B.I.G killings.

Needless to say, I move to the southern cities to get away from it all. But, it is still not far enough.
